Synopsis
EMA Riichi Referee Seminar
Bad Vöslau, Austria, 18 September 2013


Purpose
There are two main purposes:
To certify EMA referees
In the longer term to create a common European standard for refereeing at official EMA certified competitions

Content
The content is split into 3 major parts:

  • Rules and regulations, clarification and motivation of the rules and regulations used by EMA
  • Behaviour, how to act as referee in a different situations, and how to interact with the players
  • Certification, an individual written test to examine if the participant has grasped the key points, a certain score is needed for the certification to be granted


The content is focused on RCR, but some is also relevant for MCR.

Expectations
The participants are expected to show interest for:

  • Understanding and exercising the rules and fair play
  • Being a referee and help players with clarifications and guidance
  • Making sure EMA certified tournaments are refereed in a proper and orderly manner


Preparation
The participants are expected to read the rules carefully within the last couple of weeks before the seminar:
Riichi – Rules for Japanese Mahjong, from 8 January 2012

The rules exist in several languages and can be found the EMA homepage

Practical info
The seminar will be held 10-17 o’clock 18 September 2013 at Weingut Schloßberg, Bad Vöslau.

The seminar and test will be in English.

The registration is € 40 and lunch, coffee and cake are included.

Presenters
The material for the referee seminar has been produced and will be presented by:

  • Tina Christensen, author of the official (English) EMA Riichi Rules
  • Morten Andersen, head referee European Riichi Championship 2008
  • Henrik Leth, referee at several Copenhagen riichi tournaments

Riichi European Championship 2013 in Austria

ermcThe Riichi European Championship 2013 will take place in Austria, organized by Alexander Doppelhofer and the Great Dragons Riichi Club Baden.

Time: 18-22 September 2013

Place: Weingut Schlossberg, Bad Vöslau, Austria.

The event is twofold: 20-22 September is the individual riichi European Championship played over 10 sessions of 90 minutes. 18-20 September the optional Team championship takes place as a separate event.

MCR European Championship 2014 in France

The next MCR Open European Mahjong Championship will take place in Strasbourg, France, in 2014.

The event will be organized by the French Organization.

Date = 4-6 July 2014.

Program, registration fee and number of participants are not settled yet.

EMA calls for proposals for European Riichi Championship 2013

Proposals should contain information on
1. Organiser
2. Date
3. Place
4. Number of participants
5. Preliminary schedule including number of sessions
6. Registration fee

Proposals should be sent to the EMA presidium
Deadline for proposals: 1 April 2012

Ildikó Hargitai (HU) crowned European Champion

In a (boiling) hot Mestre, 160 players fought for 3 long days (9 rounds of 2 hours) during the Open European Championship 2011.

Ildikó 'spoiled' only 4 points (32/36), did not falter under the pressure and took the title with a 4 point margin. Martin Faartoft (DK) claimed 2nd place, with 28 points, while Leni Janssen (NL) took 3rd (27 points).
